"The Fourth Great and Bountiful Human Empire. And there it is. Planet Earth. At its height. Covered with mega-cities. Five moons. Population: 96 billion. The hub of a galactic domain. Stretching across a million planets, a million species. With mankind right in the middle." ~ The 9th Doctor

"The thing is, Adam, time travel's like visiting Paris. You can't just read the guide book, you've got to throw yourself in. Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, get charged double and end up kissing complete strangers. Or is that just me?"  ~ The 9th Doctor

"And over on the Bad Wolf channel, the Face of Boe has just announced he's pregnant." ~ Cathica

"I can see better. This society's the wrong shape. Even the technology. It's backwards. There's a great big door in your head." ~ The Tenth Doctor

"Oh, never underestimate plumbing. Plumbing's very important." ~ The Tenth Doctor

"Well, now. There's an interesting point. Is a slave a slave if he doesn't know he's enslaved?" ~ The Editor

"Oy mate. You wanna bank on a certainty? Massive heat and massive body: massive bad. See you in the headlines!" ~ The Tenth Doctor

Trivia
====================================
Adam has the dubious distinction of being the first (and, to date, only) known companion to have his TARDIS-travelling rights revoked by the Doctor due to bad behaviour - all other companions forced to stay behind were either left for their own safety (e.g. Sarah Jane Smith, Donna Noble) or because the Doctor thought it was better for them they stayed in one place (e.g. Susan Foreman).

According to Russell T Davies, this episode was based on an idea which he submitted to the Doctor Who production team in the early 1980s.

The Jagrafess's full name is Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe, the longest monster name in Doctor Who so far.

The shortening of a long, almost unpronouncable alien name to "Max" also occurs in the 1986 film Flight of the Navigator.

Simon Pegg had great difficulty saying "The Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe".

Pegg was originally slated to play Rose Tyler's father in Father's Day, but due to a scheduling conflict took the role of The Editor in this episode instead.

The original story outline was set in the year 8922.
