Quotes
====================================
"I'm rather tired of your insinuations that I am not master of this craft.  Oh, I admit, it did develop a fault, a minor fault on one occasion, perhaps twice, but nothing I couldn't control." ~ The First Doctor

Ian Chesterton: Are you so certain you know where we are?
The 1st Doctor: Certain? Of course I'm certain! If you doubt me, take a look for yourself.

"But you have your important researches to complete. You may not find the time. There's a chance that we won't meet again. Don't you think it would be better if we parted under more friendly circumstances, say, over a drink?" ~ Ian Chesterton

Ian Chesterton: Now, wait a minute. The Doctor's put us down, right in the middle of the French Revolution.
Barbara Wright: Yes, the Reign Of Terror.

Susan Foreman: We might not get back to the ship if Grandfather hears we're in the Reign Of Terror.
Ian Chesterton: Why not?
Susan Foreman: It's his favorite period in the history of Earth.

Jailer: This batch for the guillotine. Take them away!
Ian Chesterton: Barbara! Susan!

"Well, if you were to expend your energy helping with the road, instead of boring and shouting at them every few seconds, you might be able to get somewhere." ~ The First Doctor

"Is there really such a need, Citizen Robespierre? Hmm? I mean, what can this Reign Of Terror possibly gain? For every opponent you put to the guillotine, two more will spring up!" ~ The First Doctor

"I flew here with three friends in a small box. When I left England it was 1963." ~ Ian Chesterton

"Yes, we were. But when we got to the prison, the Doctor was there. He's dressed up as if he was running the revolution! From what I could gather, half the people there take orders from him!"~ Barbara Wright

"Oh, spare your breath, please! I'm quite capable of explaining the situation myself." ~ The First Doctor

"The events will happen, just as they are written... I'm afraid so and we can't stem the tide. But at least we can stop being carried away with the flood!" ~ The First Doctor

"Well, unlike the old adage, my boy, our destiny is in the stars, so let's go and search for it." ~ The First Doctor

Trivia
====================================
This was the first Doctor Who story to feature location filming.

Prints of all four existing episodes were recovered from a Cypriot television station in 1985. These included a superior print of episode 2

This story was a replacement for a six-part story by David Whitaker which would have been set at the time of the Spanish Armada.

William Russell originally suggested the idea of a story set during the French Revolution.

Director Henric Hirsch suffered from exhaustion during the making of this serial and was unable to direct episode 3. It is believed John Gorrie (who had directed The Keys of Marinus) stepped in temporarily. However, Gorrie claimed to have no memory of working on the story so it is possible the director was someone else, who remains unidentified to this day. Some sources have credited Verity Lambert as director for this episode, as no director is credited on-screen (which at the time normally implied that the producer also directed the program), but she firmly denied this.

This was the first historical in which the Doctor was seen to wear period attire. The First Doctor continued to do so in most of his stories set in Earth's past. The tradition was initially continued by the Second Doctor in The Highlanders, but as pure historical stories faded from Doctor Who, the Doctor generally abandoned this notion.

The story is currently in the process of being animated, with the animation to fill in for the missing episodes. The project is being led by Big Finish Productions, along with Thetamation for PUP Limited and BBC Worldwide. In March 2011 it was provisionally slated for released in late 2012. Though by July of 2012 it had yet to be scheduled for release.

The Doctor is proud of himself for getting Ian and Barbara to within 100 miles [actually ~200 miles] of their home of London. The Fourth Doctor, attempting to return Sarah Jane Smith to her London neighbourhood of South Croydon, misses the mark by more than 400 miles, delivering her instead to Aberdeen.
